MILBANK (AP) - Federal wildlife officials are holding two meetings next week on a proposal seeking threatened or endangered species status for two Upper Midwest butterflies.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service says the Dakota skipper and the Poweshiek skipperling butterflies are threatened by degradation or changes to their tallgrass prairie habitat.

The meetings are planned for Minot, N.D., on Tuesday and Milbank, in north-central South Dakota, on Wednesday.

The Fish and Wildlife Service has one year to decide whether to give the species protected status.
