FREMONT, Neb.-Matt Wilber couldn't help but feel disappointed on Saturday.

After the Dakota Wesleyan University men's basketball team fell to Midland University 80-67 in Fremont, Neb., the third-year head coach shouldered the blame for the loss.

"I feel really disappointed because this might be the worst game I ever coached," Wilber said. "I feel really badly for our guys. I was reflecting on it right after, and I don't think I've ever coached this team in a worse way."

Midland came out of the gates on fire, shooting 67.7 percent in the first half en route to a 50-42 halftime lead. Alex Starkel had 22 points, while Jesse Jones had 20 points to lead the Warriors.

"I'm really impressed with how midland played, especially with the first half," Wilber said. "We could not get them guarded. They made shots and make plays. We fought back, but we just came up short. There were shots that weren't made but that's just how it goes."

Leading DWU was senior guard Jade Miller, who finished with 21 points. Trae Bergh chipped in 16 points while Tate Martin had 11.

The loss dropped No. 9 DWU to 9-4 and 4-2 in Great Plains Athletic Conference Play. Both of the Tigers' conference losses have been on the road.

"Our league is going to be like that," Wilber said. "We have a one day at a time approach, it won't have a huge impact besides making us take a look at ourselves and re-evaluate what we need to work on.

DWU shot 48 percent in the contest compared to Midland's 58 percent, and was outrebounded 28-17.

The Tigers are back in action at 7 p.m. on Tuesday in an exhibition contest against the University of Sioux Falls in Sioux Falls.
