SIOUX FALLS-Alex Hegg provided the lone win for the Mitchell High School boys tennis team against Sioux Falls O'Gorman on Tuesday, as the Kernels fell 8-1 in Sioux Falls. The loss was the Kernels' first in the regular season since the 2014 season.
"The score pretty much sums it up on its own," Mitchell head coach Pat Moller said. "We got beat by a more experienced team. Our youth and inexperience showed today. We're going to learn from this match and take the experience and prepare for the next go-around."
Hegg defeated Cade Damgaard 6-3, 6-1 at the No. 1 singles spot.
"He played with a lot of confidence," Moller said. "He played a kid that was younger than him. The experience definitely worked in Alex's favor and he took advantage of it."
The Kernels (3-1) are back in action at a quad meet on Saturday in Huron.
