PIERRE-The Mitchell High School tennis team dominated in its season-opening matches, sweeping Pierre and Rapid City Central 9-0 at the Pierre Triangular on Tuesday in Pierre.

"It was a good first day for us," Mitchell head coach Pat Moller said. "We've got some things to work on, but any time you start the season with two convincing wins, it's a good day."

No. 1 singles player Alex Hegg defeated Pierre's Kaden Hight (10-7) and RCC's Michael Robidoux (10-1) in singles play. With the two victories, he sits at 101 total wins in his prep tennis career.

"Alex has been a class act and (100 wins) is a very well-earned and deserved achievement," Moller said. "He's the ultimate teammate, and I think he'd give his teammates that have played above him before a lot of credit. He had a tough match today against Kaden Hight, but Alex just grinded it out as he's done his whole career and waited him out to pounce on his mistakes.

Meanwhile, No. 2 singles player Jacob Dahme defeated Pierre's Jace Wernsmann (10-3) and RCC's D'Kota Segrist (10-4). The No. 1 doubles tandem of Hegg and Dahme defeated Hight and Chris Rae 10-0, and Robidoux and Segrist 10-1.
