RAPID CITY-The Mitchell High School boys tennis team claimed third place at the Rapid City Invitational on Saturday.
The Kernels finished with 155 points, while Brandon Valley won with 251 points. Rapid City Stevens finished in third with 243.5 points.
The Kernels placed three players in the finals and had one individual champ in Ben Helleloid. In Flight 5, Helleloid defeated Brandon Valley's Andrew Hanson in the title match. Helleloid won 7-6 (5), 2-6 and 11-9 in the match.
Macon Larson (Flight 4) and Tyler Loecker (Flight 6) both lost title matches. Larson lost to Brandon Valley's Evan Talcott (6-3, 7-5) in the final match. Larson defeated Rapid City Stevens' Christian Mueller 2-6, 6-0 and 10-7 in the semifinal match.
Loecker lost to Brandon Valley's Landon Kocer (6-4, 6-1) in his final match. Loecker did beat Aberdeen Central's Alex Tennant 6-2, 6-7 (5) and 11-9 in the semifinals.

Marcus Halling (Flight 2) and Connor Thelen (Flight 3) each finished fifth in their flights. Jace Grosdidier (Flight 1) took seventh.
The Kernels host Vermillion, Pierre and Yankton for a quad at 10:30 p.m. on Monday at Hitchcock Park.
