YANKTON-The Mitchell High School girls golf team earned a 13th place finish at the Yankton Invitational on Friday at Fox Run Golf Course in Yankton with a team score of 419. Sioux Falls O'Gorman won the event with a 328.

"We were without our number one and two golfers today," Mitchell head coach Keri Munsen said. "With the girls that I had today, they did alright. This is a learning experience for a lot of them. I can't get frustrated with them because they're here to learn and here to get better. But it's hard for us to compete with teams that score in the 70s and 80s."

Meanwhile, Parkston finished fourth as a team with a 356. Sydney Weber led the Trojans by finishing second individually with a 75. Sydney Bormann placed ninth with a 84.

For Mitchell, Kailee Henglefelt tied for 40th individually with a 99, while Masy Mock tied for 66th with a 106. Sioux Falls Roosevelt's McKayla Poppens won the individual title with a 74.

The Kernels are back in action at 2 p.m. on Monday at a quad meet in Watertown.
