CLARK-The McCook/Miner Legion baseball team won two games on Saturday to clinch the Clark Tournament championship.

After defeating Groton on Friday, McCook/Miner held off a late comeback in its 5-4 win over Tabor in the semifinals, then beat Parker 7-3 to end the tournament.

In the first game, McCook/Miner outhit Tabor 6-5. Kyle Tuschen hit two doubles, including an RBI double in the second. Kendall Gassman, Sam Arend, Cade Schmitt and Blake Klinkhammer all added a hit.

Gassman struck out 10 batters in his complete-game effort. He allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits and a walk.

In Game 2, McCook/Miner was helped by Trent Kingsbury's seven strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings out of the bullpen. He allowed an unearned run on two hits and four walks.

McCook/Miner outhit Parker 6-2, including Cole Gassman's bases-clearing double in the second. Mitch Kramer went 1-for-3 with an RBI and three runs, while Kalub Carmichael, Arend, Kingsbury and Tuschen all had a hit.

McCook/Miner (15-1) plays Corsica/Stickney at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Salem. Tabor (12-4) hosts Parkston in a Legion game at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Winner/Colome splits doubleheader

GARRETSON-Winner/Colome took a game during its Legion baseball doubleheader on Sunday.

Winner/Colome's late rally fell short in its 6-5 loss to Garretson, but it rebounded with an 11-1 five-inning win over Vermillion.

At the plate in Game 1, Levi McClananan hit a two-run home run in the seventh inning, while Jackson Kinzer and Ty Bolton each drove in a run. Riley Calhoon and Bolton led Winner/Colome with two hits.

Kinzer allowed six runs (four earned) and nine hits in his complete-game effort. He struck out six batters.

In Game 2, Winner/Colome scored eight runs in the first two innings, highlighted by McClananan's two-run home run in the first. The Royals' three-run fifth was capped by Bolton, who went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, hitting a two-RBI triple and Kinzer's RBI single.

Calhoon led the team with three hits. Kinzer, Cale Meiners and Carter Brickman, who also had two RBIs, all had two hits.

Bolton threw a complete game, striking out seven and allowing one unearned run on three hits and three walks.

Winner/Colome (7-11) travels to Platte at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
