VERMILLION - The McCook/Miner Legion teams dropped a pair of games Friday at the Lewis and Clark Wooden Bat Classic in Vermillion.

McCook/Miner fell 3-1 against Brandon Valley before an 11-2 victory by Vermillion at Prentiss Park.

In the opener, Cole Gassman was 2-for-2 for McCook/Miner and Jordan Genzlinger scored the team's lone run in the first inning. Gassman took the loss, throwing six innings, allowing four hits, no earned runs and striking out seven.

In the second game against Vermillion, Jesse Muth was 2-for-2 at the plate with a run scored and an RBI. Connor Hamilton also had an RBI but Vermillion scored nine runs in the first two innings and the game was shortened to five innings after the big lead. Tanner Miller took the loss, allowing 10 earned runs on 11 hits in 2 1/3 innings.

McCook/Miner (2-3) will take on South Sioux City and Harrisburg in back-to-back games to close out pool play, starting at 11:45 a.m. today in Vermillion.
