McCook Central/Montrose takes fourth at Howard Invite

HOWARD-The McCook Central/Montrose wrestling team battled its way to a fourth-place finish at the Howard Invitational on Saturday in Howard.

MCM finished with 119 points, while Beresford won the event with 209 points.

For MCM, Paul Lauck took second in the 132 weight class, while his teammate, Jared Ries placed second in the 126 division. Caleb Krouse finished second in the 160-pound weight class for the Fighting Cougars.

Wagner took sixth in the team standings with 106 points. Ben Soukup took home the 120-pound title, while Truman Ashes won the 285-pound weight class. For the Red Raiders, Jace Johnson took third in the 220-pound division.

Meanwhile, Howard placed seventh with 103 points behind Evan Kizer's first place finish in the 195-pound division. EJ Leetch finished third in the 182-pound weight class for the Tigers.

The three-time defending state champion Parkston Trojans finished ninth with 94 points. The Trojans were led by Blake Bietz, who won the 152-pound weight class while his teammate, Austin Ripp, finished second in the 170-pound division.

Mount Vernon/Plankinton/Corsica took 12th place with 33 points, as Marcus Urban took third in the 138 weight class.

Burke/Gregory takes second at Gregory Invitational

GREGORY-Jeremiah Beck took home the hardware in the 160-pound division to help lead Burke/Gregory to a second-place finish at the Gregory Invitational on Saturday in Gregory.

The Gorillas finished with 165.5 team points, behind winner Stanley County with 180.5 points.

Frank Even (106) and Tyson Serr (195) fought for second place finishes, while Jackson Eklund took third in the 113-pound weight class for Burke/Gregory.

Kimball/White Lake/Platte-Geddes took fourth with 163 points, behind second-place finishes from Jackson Nockels (120) and Ty Namanny (132). Sam Kruger (106), Alex Daum (138) and Austin Moore all fought to third place finishes for K/WL/PG.

Bon Homme/Scotland finished seventh with 119 points, as Kaleb Crownover beat Wyatt Stevens, of Wessington Springs/Woonsocket, for the 113 title. Zach Sykora won the 126-pound division, while Alex Caba (138) and Josh Crownover (152) each placed second.

Wessington Springs/Woonsocket finished ninth with 94 points, while Lyman took 10th with 83 points behind third place finishes from Cole Schelske (182) and Cameron McManigal (220). Andes Central finished 12th with 26 points and Tre'zen Doren won the 285-pound weight class, defeating Colten Nelson of Burke/Gregory.

Marion/Freeman took 13th with 22.5 points.
