McCook Central/Montrose can’t shake slow start in loss to Sioux Falls Christian

Sioux Falls Christian jumped out to an 18-4 lead at the end of the first quarter and McCook Central/Montrose could not recover in a 56-45 loss in the Class A consolation semifinals Friday.

WATERTOWN -- Sioux Falls Christian jumped out to an 18-4 lead at the end of the first quarter and McCook Central/Montrose could not recover in a 56-45 loss in the Class A consolation semifinals Friday.

The No. 5 Chargers forced 18 turnovers and made 12 steals, as Lexi Unruh had 15 points, six steals, five rebounds and two blocks. Maddie DeJong added 15 points, six rebounds and four steals, while Kylah VanDonkersgoed had 12 points, four rebounds and two blocks.

Madisen Koepsell and Ashtyn Wobig accounted for 42 of 45 points for the eighth-seeded Fighting Cougars. Koepsell finished with 23 points and 13 rebounds, while Wobig had 19 points and seven boards.

Sioux Falls Christian (20-4) faces the No. 7 Dakota Valley in the fifth-place game at 2 p.m. Saturday. MCM (17-7) plays the No. 6 Belle Fourche at noon Saturday.
