McCook Central/Montrose and Wagner posts 5 champions combined, MCM claims Invitational

MCM claims team title at Ken Ruml Invitational in Howard on Saturday.

HOWARD — Wrestling in six first place matches, McCook Central/Montrose won the high school wrestling tournament Saturday at the Ken Ruml Invitational at Howard High School.

The Fighting Cougars scored 146.5 points, outlasting second-place Parker by 14.5 points. Wagner was third with 124.5 points ahead of host and fourth-place finisher Howard with 121 points.

Jackson Remmers (145 pounds) and Kade Grocott (195 pounds) won their classes on Saturday, with Remmers winning two matches by pin and winning the championship match by a major decision. Grocott won all three of his matches with pins in the tournament.

For Parker, Levi Wieman had a bye and then won two straight matches by pin to win the 220-pound title.

Karstyn Lhotak (106), Jhett Breen (132) and Brennan Leines (285) each won individual titles for Wagner. Lhotak had three pins on the way to winning the championship match by decision. Breen had two pins and a win by decision to claim the 132-pound title while Leines pinned one opponent and won two matches by decision to claim the 285-pound title.


Kaden Holzbauer was the bracket winner at 113 pounds for Parkston while Noah Mahoney was also a bracket winner for Parkston at 182 pounds. Both Hadley Tobin (126) and Griffin Tobin (152) were bracket winners for Mount Vernon/Plankinton/Corsica-Stickney.

Gannon Gilligan won three matches by decision to pick up the 120-pound title for Kingsbury County. Cael Larson, of Webster Area, had one win by pin and two by decision to claim the 138-pound title. Howard’s John Callies won three matches by pin and the championship match by decision to pick up the 160-pound title for the Tigers while Tri-Valley’s Mason Hendrickson won two matches by pin and two by decision to pick up the 170-pound title.

Burke/Gregory finishes first at Burke/Gregory meet

GREGORY – Burke/Gregory claimed three champions at Burke/Gregory Invitational on Saturday.

Burke/Gregory had 173 points, followed by Custer with 132 points and Lyman in third place with 94.5 points.

Owen Hansen was the tournament champion at 132 pounds for Burke/Gregory, along with Mason Hood at 152-pound weight class and Taron Serr at 195-pound weight class. Moxon Fox (113), Jackson Bauld (120), Tyler Spencer (138) and Gunner Stephens (182) all finished second in their respective weight classes and Eli Ekroth (106), Gentry Bartling (145) and Jhett Eklund (160) placed third in their respective weight classes.

Noah Hutmacher of Chamberlain places second at Rapid City Invitational

RAPID CITY – Noah’s Hutmacher finished second in the 220-pound weight class at the Rapid City Invitational on Saturday.

Hutmacher won three matches by pin before falling in the championship match against Dillon Glick of Thunder Basin. As a team, Chamberlain tied for 24th with Sioux Falls O’Gorman with 37 points.

Host Rapid City Stevens won the Rapid City Invitational with 215 points. Watertown claimed second place as a team with 192.5 points and Harrisburg finished in third with 185 points.
