Mastel wins two titles at Woodlake Winter Classic

SIOUX FALLS -- Mitchell native Megan Mastel came home with a pair of first-place trophies after competing in the Woodlake Winter Classic from Dec. 13-15.

Mastel did not drop a set en route to capturing a championship in the girls 12-and-under singles competition and then teamed with Sioux Falls’ Katelyn Connelly to win the girls 12-and-under doubles competition.

In singles, Mastel beat Sioux Falls’ Eileen Baumgarten in the quarterfinals, 6-0, 6-0, and then took down Eloise Geraets (Sioux Falls) in the semifinals, 6-2, 6-2. Mastel completed her title run with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Sioux Falls’ Julia Hedrick.

In doubles, Mastel and Connelly went 2-0 in a three-team round robin. First, they nipped the Sioux Falls tandem of Hedrick and Angela Ge, 8-7. They followed it up with an 8-1 win over Baumgarten and Olivia Miner.
