Marlin girls split weekend games to open season

The Mitchell Marlins girls hockey team opened the season 1-1, with a 9-4 win over Watertown on Saturday and a 9-0 defeat to Sioux Falls on Sunday.

Against Watertown, the Marlins’ Reese Amick scored two goals in the first period to give them a 2-1 lead. She completed the hat trick in the second period, while Kelsey Amick also scored twice to extend Mitchell’s lead to 5-3. Kelsey Amick scored three more times in the third period, while MaKenna Tronnes also added a goal, as Mitchell scored the final three goals in the win.

Sadie Kludt saved 19 of 23 shots for the Marlins. Mitchell held a 28-23 advantage in shots.

On Sunday, Mitchell didn’t have the same success on offense. Sioux Falls started quickly with six goals in the first period.

Kludt saved 40 shots in the loss for the Marlins. Mitchell was held to eight shots.

Mitchell (1-1) hosts Sioux Center at 8 p.m. Friday at the Mitchell Activity Center.
