BROOKINGS-The Mitchell Marlins boys hockey team finished in sixth place at the state tournament on Sunday in Brookings.
After Friday's opening round defeat to Sioux Falls West, Mitchell took down Huron in the consolation semifinals 9-2. Jacob Thill led the Marlins with three goals and one assist, while Otto Sandrini added two goals. Spencer Neugebauer finished with one goal and three assists, while Bryce Geraets added a goal and an assist, Jake Jarman had one goal and Jesse Grosdidier recorded one goal in the win. Mitchell outshot Huron 38-29 and Marlin goalie Joshua Loecker recorded 27 saves.
On Sunday, Mitchell fell 10-6 to Rushmore in the fifth-place game.
Thill and Geraets each had two goals and one assist, while Jarman and Grosdidier each added one goal. Drew Kitchens had two assists, Sandrini added an assist and Grosdidier recorded an assist.
Rushmore outshot Mitchell 37-27. Loecker made five saves, while Ben Colwell had 23 saves in the loss.

Brookings won the eight-team tournament by defeating Sioux Falls West 6-1 in the championship.
