Madut leads group of South Dakota runners at Boston Marathon

BOSTON-Mitchell resident Thomas Madut was one of 38 current South Dakota residents that ran in the 120th Boston Marathon on Monday in Boston.

Madut, a former Dakota Wesleyan University standout, finished with a time of 3 hours and 2 seconds, while Freeman residents Shannon Newman and Gregg Uecker finished with times of 3:19.21 and 3:22.43, respectively.

Wagner native and former University of South Dakota cross country runner Jilanne Doom also competed in the prestigious race. Doom finished with a time of 3:21.24.

Two Ethiopians won the men's and women's race as Lemi Berhanu Hayle finished with a time of 2:12.45 to win the men's division. Atsede Baysa won the women's division with a time of 2:29.19.
