Finishing in sixth place at the state tournament last year did not sit well with the Kimball boys' golf team.
This year, the team is on its way to making sure that that doesn't happen again.
On Friday, at the boys' Region 4B golf tournament at the Lakeview Golf Course in Mitchell, Kimball junior Russell Pick shot an 80, to take home the individual title. The Kimball boys' team shot a 250 to take the team championship. The top 17 individuals advanced to the state tournament.
Platte-Geddes finished in second place with a 255 and South Central took third place with a 277.
"Last year we felt like we should have won also and we didn't so we got it this year. We got it done and the boys did what they're supposed to do," Kimball boys' golf coach Jan Miedema said. "We got sixth place at the state tournament last year and we'd like to think we have a shot of bettering that."

Shawn Harmon came in fourth place, shooting a 44 in front and a 40 in back to finish with an 84, and Stephen Miedema and Dylan Konechne shot an 86 and an 88 respectively to come in seventh and eighth place for Kimball.
Jan Miedema said one thing that helped the team this year was practicing in the same weather conditions at the pre-region tournament on Monday.
"It was wet and it was windy on Monday also, so it was a pretty nice practice round for us," he said. "We were able to play through it today."
Pick, who is a junior, said he's shot a 77 at Lakeview before, but 80 is his lowest tournament round of the season.
"It feels pretty good," Pick said. "Coming in here my front nine I didn't do so well and I just tried to stay focused on my back nine and put a good run in."
Jan Miedema said the team is excited to have another shot at running for a state title, but until then the team is going to rest over the weekend and then get back to preparing and practicing on Monday.
"We all started out really high and it was a big wake-up call for us so we thought maybe we should do better at the end of the year," he said.
