WATERTOWN -- The Mitchell High School wrestling team earned a sixth place finish at the Watertown eight-team dual tournament on Saturday in Watertown.
Mitchell defeated Yankton 51-28 and fell just short to Milbank 34-33 by criteria. The Kernels also fell to Watertown 59-14, which placed Mitchell in the fifth place match against Huron.
"The kids did a good job," said Mitchell head coach Travis Carpenter, who added his team had eight open weights in the matches against Huron and Watertown. "I was happy with the effort we put forth."
Huron won the final dual of the day, beating Mitchell 45-27 giving the Kernels a sixth place finish.
Aberdeen Central won the event by defeating Watertown in the championship match 48-22.

Mitchell seniors Ethan Paar and Robert McCardle both went undefeated at the tournament, while senior Landon Neugebauer and eighth-grader Carson Max went 3-1.
"We got some basic things that we need to work on and that's what we will practice on,"
Carpenter said. "Doing a little thing wrong can turn into a big thing and we need to be working on eliminating those little mistakes."
Mitchell travels to Rapid City on Friday.
