HURON-The Mitchell High School boys golf team outlasted Huron by three strokes to win a dual on Monday in Huron.
Mitchell finished with a team score of 338, while the Tigers carded a 341. Cade Carpenter led the Kernels with an 80 to finish second individually, while Sam Mock took third with an 82. Huron's Nolan Weigel shot a 77 to place first.
Mitchell head coach Mark Horan said his team did a good job battling the wind on Monday.
"It was not an easy day to play golf, but we came out with a victory," Horan said.
Along with Carpenter and Mock, Max Dailey finished with an 87, Ethan Huber recorded an 89, Nick Bennett shot a 93 and Dillon Adams carded a 95 to round out the varsity score.
"I saw a lot of putting that need improvement," Horan said. "That's kind of always the case, so we'll focus on putting and try and lower that team score."
In the junior varsity dual, Mitchell finished with a team score of 185 and Huron had a 204. Sam Helloid carded a 92 to lead the JV team, while Max Tupper had a 93 and Taylor Uithoven finished with a 94. Kade Clark and Jakob Studer each recorded a 95, while Tate Krcil finished with a 99.
"I was really impressed with those junior varsity scores," Horan said. "It shows, there's a lot of potential varsity players that are coming on pretty good."
Mitchell is back on the course today at the Pierre Invitational in Pierre.
