YANKTON-The Mitchell High School boys and girls cross country teams had strong showings at the Yankton Invitational on Thursday at Fox Run Golf Course in Yankton.

Mitchell had three boys runners finish in the top four, while Mary Krause placed fifth in the girls race at the four-team event.

The Kernels had 34 runners run achieve personal best times at that meet. No team scores were kept at the meet, which included the hosts, Vermillion and Norfolk, Nebraska.

"We're pretty happy," MHS head coach Keith Christensen said. "Kids that normally run 19 minutes, were running low 18s. A lot of the varsity kids took a minute off of their times."

For the Kernel boys, Jacob Jarding finished second with a time of 17 minutes, 41.92 seconds. Kelton Vincent placed third (17:52.11), Lucas Moller (17:52.36) finished fourth and Gage Nelson took 12th (18:42.62). Mitchell's Caleb Lee took 17th (19:28.08), Russell Duley finished 19th (19:44.73) and Jared Mauer placed 20th (20:04.29).
