Kernels capture second at Warrior Invitational

SIOUX FALLS-The Mitchell High School wrestling team claimed second place at the Warrior Invitational on Saturday.

The Kernels racked up 184.5 points, while Watertown won the invitational with 237 points. Brandon Valley took third with 158.5.

Bryce Palmer (120 pounds) and Ryan McGinnis (132) took second in their respective weight classes. Palmer was pinned by Watertown's Ty Althoff (2:39) in the title match.

McGinnis lost to Brandon Valley's Kobi Terpstra by a 11-3 major decision, but edged Watertown's Jaxon Waugh by a 10-9 sudden victory in the semifinals.

Mitchell's Joe VanOverschelde (160) placed third and defeated Watertown's Lexan Thorson by a 7-5 sudden victory. Logan Sparks (138) and Tate Ellwein (170) both placed fourth.

The Kernels will be face Aberdeen Central in a dual on Thursday in Aberdeen.
