HURON-The Mitchell High School track and field team took advantage of one last chance to qualify for the Class AA state meet Thursday in the Mark Wendelgass Relays at Tiger Stadium.
For the Mitchell boys, Courtney Miller claimed the 200-meter title, winning in 23.44 seconds and he was second in the 400 race (52.13). Tate Larson won the 300 hurdles in 42.47 seconds and was second in the 110 hurdles (16.98). Erik Bermhardson, the lone entrant in the 3,200-meter race, won the event in 13:00.43 for the Kernels.
Kiel Nelson was second in the pole vault, clearing 13 feet, 3 inches. Jarod Uher was third in the 800 run (2:05.43) and Miles Rolle was third in the triple jump (40-6.5). Sam Edwards finished tied for third in the 100 dash (11.08).
For the Kernel girls, Kyla Crago won the 200 (26.73) and 400 (58.56) dashes. She also finished third in the 100-meter dash (12.55). Carly Haring finished second in the high jump (5-7) and third in the long jump (34-0).
No team scores were kept, as Eastern South Dakota Conference rivals Aberdeen Central, Brookings, Huron, Pierre and Watertown also participated.
