BRANDON-Brandon Valley played the Mitchell High School girls tennis team tough, but the Kernels still took down the Lynx 6-3 on Tuesday.
Mitchell's No. 1 singles player Avery Larson was taken to a third set by Tanna Lehfeldt, but Larson found her footing in the final set to win 7-6(3), 5-7, 10-4. In No. 2 singles play, Kernels' Kelsey Dahme took down Annabelle Schultz 6-3, 6-2, though Larson/Dahme fell to Lehfeldt/Sydney Pelletier in doubles play 6-4, 6-1.
Atlanta Stahle (6-4, 3-6, 10-2) and Olivia Huber (6-4, 7-5) both won for the Kernels, as well.
In doubles play, Madison Bohlen/Kiersten Bathke swept Schultz/Kate Lundberg 6-4, 6-3, while Stahle/Amber Moller defeated Michaela Jerke/Marie Pelletier 6-4, 7-6(5).
The Kernels (18-4) compete in the Eastern South Dakota Conference tournament at 8 a.m. on Thursday.
