The Mitchell High School girls tennis team had its first of back-to-back triangulars on Thursday at Hitchcock Park.
Mitchell squeaked past Watertown, 5-4, by winning four tightly-contested singles matches in the top-four flights. It fell in its second match of the day, though, as Sioux Falls O’Gorman took down the Kernels, 6-3.
Atlanta Stahle (Flight 1) and Amber Moller (Flight 3) both needed three sets to earn a win against Watertown. In Flight 1, Stahle took down Ellie Zink, 4-6, 6-2, 10-6, while Moller defeated Sadie Moran, 4-6, 6-4, 14-12. Olivia Huber (Flight 2) barely avoided a third set during a 7-6(6), 7-5 win over Josie Heyn.
Julia Platt’s 6-1, 6-2 victory over Allison Rokusek was the shortest match in singles play. Platt also earned a win in doubles play alongside Delaney Degen, though they needed three sets in a 6-3, 5-7, 10-2 victory.
Against O’Gorman, Stahle notched a second three-set win, defeating Maya Jamous, 4-6, 7-5 10-8. Platt earned another straight set win, while Kiersten Bathke won a decisive third set over C.C. Bender to win the match, 7-5, 5-7, 10-6.

The Kernels dropped two of the three doubles matches in three sets, including Platt/Degen falling 11-9 in the third set.
Mitchell hosts Pierre and Yankton for an 11 a.m. triangular today at Hitchcock Park.
