Kernel tennis downs Washington for dual win

The Mitchell High School girls tennis team picked up its 15th win of the season, a 7-2 win over Sioux Falls Washington on Thursday at Hitchcock Park.

Washington claimed Flight 1 singles and Flight 1 doubles, but Mitchell won the other seven matches.

Olivia Huber (Flight 2) notched a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Taylor Olson, while Amber Moller (Flight 3) defeated Olivia Rydson, 6-1, 6-4. In Flight 4, Julia Platt earned a convincing 6-4, 6-0 win against Abbie Mayer.

Mitchell’s bottom-two singles flights didn’t drop a game in the first set. Kiersten Bathke (Flight 5) won 6-0, 6-2 over Emma Reck and Megan Mastel (Flight 6) knocked off Sydney Seiler, 6-0, 6-1.

In doubles play, Huber and Bathke (Flight 2) took down Rydson and Mayer, 6-0, 6-4. In Flight 3, Platt and Degen teamed to earn a 6-1, 6-1 win.

Mitchell plays a triangular at Yankon at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
