HURON -- The Mitchell High School girls tennis team earned three convincing wins on Saturday at the Huron quadrangular. The Kernels didn’t drop more than two matches in any matchup, as they defeated Aberdeen Central (8-1), Brandon Valley (7-2) and Huron (9-0).
Mitchell won eight of nine doubles matches on the day, including Megan Mastel and Carsyn Weich teaming up to top Huron’s Ann Hoek and Beth Engelhart, 10-0, in Flight 1 doubles. Olivia Huber and Kiersten Bathke earned a 10-1 win over Huron in Flight 2, as well.
In singles play against the Tigers, Mitchell had four victories in which it lost three or fewer games. Julia Platt (Flight 4) earned a 10-0 win, Huber (Flight 2) won 10-1 and Bathke (Flight 5) and Mastel (Flight 6) both earned 10-3 wins.
Delaney Degen played Flight 1 singles against Huron, which turned into a 10-7 win. Atlanta Stahle competed in Flight 1 singles against Aberdeen Central and Brandon Valley, and earned wins of 10-5 and 10-1.
Huber, Platt and Mastel all went 3-0 on the day, though Platt and Mastel went down to the wire against Aberdeen Central. Platt defeated Laney Gonsor, 11-9, and Mastel earned an 11-9 victory over Jocelyn Orr. Huber never dropped more than four games in any of her three wins.

Amber Moller and Bathke both earned a pair of wins. Moller took down Aberdeen’s Carly Comstock, 10-4, and Huron’s Bianca Medina, 10-8. Meanwhile, Bathke also defeated Brandon Valley’s Kenzie Polasky, 10-2, along with a win against Huron.
Mitchell (13-3 overall, 8-1 Eastern South Dakota Conference) hosts Sioux Falls Washington at 4 p.m. Thursday.
