ABERDEEN -- Quinci Herll and Rebecca Sadler finished first and second to lead the Mitchell gymnastics team to victory Saturday at the Hub City Invite.
The Kernels finished with a 145.6 and were followed by Sioux Falls O’Gorman (134.7) and Aberdeen Central (133.55).
“You could tell it was our second meet of the week,” Mitchell coach Audra Rew said. “There were a couple of mistakes here and there. We still have room for improvement.”
Herll won the all-around competition with a 37.325, while Sadler was second with a 37.025. Herll tied for first on floor with a 9.4 and won vault with a 9.5.
Mitchell took the top three spots on beam with Sadler leading the way with a 9.5, followed by Herll (9.475) and Emily Prill (9.0).

“The girls had some great beam routines, but we did have some mistakes, too,” Rew said. “Gymnastics is hard because you can be not satisfied with a score and yet you’re happy with your routine or vice versa. We’re going to worry about making things better.”
The Kernels look to continue their win streak as they host the Mitchell Invitational on Friday and Saturday at the high school. Rew said she will have two teams competing this weekend, with Mitchell Black competing on Friday and Mitchell Gold competing Saturday.
