Kernel gymnastics earns Watertown Invite title

Sommerville, Moody among top-4 in all-around

WATERTOWN -- The Mitchell High School gymnastics team notched first place at the Watertown Invitational on Saturday.

The Kernels scored 146.450 team points to beat out host Watertown, which finished with 142.150 points to narrowly edge Brookings (142.025).

Joslin Sommerville and Emily Moody paced the Kernels on multiple events, leading to high finishes in all-around. Watertown’s Brooke Bollinger (38.050) won all-around, but Sommerville (36.575) and Moody (36.275) placed third and fourth, respectively.

They tied for third on vault with a score of 9.300, while Moody (9.525) also placed third on floor and Sommerville (9.500) took fourth place. Sommerville’s other third-place finish came on uneven bars, as she recorded a 9.100. Olivia Prunty (8.950) placed fourth, followed by Kyra Gropper (8.925) and Kyanna Gropper (8.750) in fifth and sixth, respectively.

Bentley Bates (9.475) picked up Mitchell’s only first-place finish, as she topped the podium on the balance beam. Moody (9.350) took third and Masy Mock (9.075) earned fourth place.


Mitchell competes in the Madison triangular on Thursday.
