WATERTOWN - The Mitchell High School girls golf team showed continued improvement Monday, placing two golfers in the top 15 at the Watertown Girls Golf Invitational.
The Kernels' Jordyn Cranny shot an 18-hole round of 90, finishing 11th in the field of 50 golfers at Prairie Winds Golf Course. Teammate Masy Mock also finished in the top-15, posting a round of 96. Mitchell finished sixth as a team, posting one of the team's lowest scores of the season with a 406. Aberdeen Central won the competition, shooting 336 as a team.
"We had two real good performances from Jordyn Cranny and Masy Mock," said Mitchell assistant coach Mark Horan, who filled in for head coach Keri Munsen, who was out with an illness. "The game is peaking at the right time for them from what I can tell."
Horan called Cranny's round her best of the year, and credited Mock, a seventh-grader, for doing a great job of developing her game.
"We were just a few more made putts away from beating Watertown on its home course," Horan said. "It's good for a young team to have a little success."
