SIOUX FALLS -- The Mitchell High School boys golf team picked up a triangular win over Sioux Falls Washington and Brookings.
The Kernels carded 343 strokes to edge Brookings (347) and Washington (348) at Elmwood Golf Course on Thursday during a blustery day on the course.
“They were really windy and really cold,” Mitchell coach Mark Horan said. “We dressed warm and so on, but it was just pretty tough out there. It was in the low 50s the most the day and the wind was really blowing. … It’s good experience because in high school golf you play in all kinds of conditions and right now state looks OK, but you never know.”
Washington’s Jack Kray shot a triangular-best 72 strokes. Mitchell’s Macon Larson took second with 81 strokes. Jackson Childs and Ashton Reimnitz both finished with 86 shots, while Carter Harris carded 90 strokes. Will Prunty (97) and Noah Larson (99) each hit under 100 strokes.
“We played without our No. 1 player (Lincoln Bates),” Horan said. “He’s got a slight sprain. So we rested him. … Ashton Reimnitz, is starting to play pretty well here the last couple of events and of course Macon is always pretty steady. He had about three holes if he could have had those back he would have really went low.”
