Kernel girls to host Roosevelt in playoff opener


The Mitchell High School girls soccer team will officially host a playoff game after the Class AA boys and girls brackets were released by the South Dakota High School Activities Association on Saturday.

The Kernels (8-4-1) earned the No. 7 seed and is slated to face No. 10 Sioux Falls Roosevelt (6-3-2) in the first round at 6 p.m. on Tuesday at Joe Quintal Field. If they were to win, Mitchell would face the winner of the match between No. 2 Aberdeen Central and No. 15 Harrisburg on Oct. 12.

Meanwhile, the Mitchell boys team (2-10-1) drew the No. 16 seed and will travel to defending state champion No. 1 Sioux Falls Washington (10-0-2) in the first round at 5 p.m. on Tuesday.

The winner faces the winner of the matchup between No. 8 Huron and No. 9 Sioux Falls Lincoln on Oct. 12.
