BROOKINGS -- In a high-scoring match, the Mitchell High School girls soccer team played Brookings to a 4-4 tie on Tuesday.
The Kernels led 2-1 at halftime, and then 4-2 with 29 minutes, 17 seconds remaining. Brookings scored two goals within the next five minutes to force a draw.
“The result tonight was disappointing, and certainly not what we were hoping for,” MHS coach Bob Lemon said. “It was good to be able to score some goals, but we struggled on the defensive end.”
Mia Mullenmeister netted both of Mitchell’s goals in the first half, and then recorded two assists in the second half. With the game tied 2-2, Lily Peterson scored twice in two minutes to put the Kernels up by two goals. Maddix Archer finished her hat trick for Brookings, which led to the tie.
“We probably should have made some adjustments to our defensive scheme when we went up 4-2, “ Lemon said. “We didn't make those changes, and Brookings made us pay.”

Mitchell (8-2-2) travels to Aberdeen Central today.
“We will make some changes and then just get ready to play again,” Lemon said. “We know that playing Aberdeen is going to be a challenge, but we are going to give it our best effort and see how it turns out.”
