ABERDEEN -- The Mitchell High School girls soccer team allowed three goals in the second half of a 4-1 loss to Aberdeen Central on Thursday in its regular-season finale.

“We played a really strong first half against Aberdeen,” MHS coach Bob Lemon said. “We had some breakdowns in the second half, but it wasn't for a lack of effort. The girls played hard all game. We were very proud of the effort.”

Marianna Novak scored the Kernels’ lone goal, as Lily Peterson assisted on the score.

However, Aberdeen responded with four unanswered goals. Taryn Hettich scored less than five minutes after Novak, and then Megan Fastenau netted a pair in the second half sandwiched around Morgan Fiedler’s score.

Aberdeen led 15-11 in shots, while Caroline Titze made 11 saves for Mitchell.
