Kernel cheer, dance both finish 7th at ESD

HURON -- The Mitchell High School competitive cheer and dance teams both finished seventh at the Eastern South Dakota Conference meet Thursday at the Huron Arena.

HURON - The Mitchell High School competitive cheer and dance teams both finished seventh at the Eastern South Dakota Conference meet Thursday at the Huron Arena.

The Kernels scored 199.5 points in the cheer competition, while scoring 210.17 points in the dance competition. The cheer score is a new season-high for MHS. In the dance competition, Mitchell's 209.5 pom score, 217.5 jazz score and 203.5 hip-hop score were averaged together.

Brandon Valley was the overall winner in both categories, scoring 256.50 points in cheer and 274.17 points in dance.

Mitchell will compete in the Class AA state cheer and dance competition Oct. 21 at noon Central time at Rapid City Stevens High School.
