Kernel basketball opener against Huron moved to Saturday at Corn Palace

Season opener now to be held Saturday

Due to the cancelation of classes related to the winter storm that moved through the Mitchell area Friday, the Mitchell High School basketball season-opening doubleheader has been moved to Saturday, Dec. 11.

Mitchell and Huron will now meet at the Corn Palace on Saturday afternoon, with the varsity girls game at 5 p.m. and the boys contest at 6:30 p.m. Subvarsity games will begin at 2:30 p.m.

Other Mitchell School District athletic scheduling changes include:

  • Mitchell High School wrestling did not travel to the Rapid City Invitational, which was scheduled to begin Friday afternoon.
  • Mitchell Middle School wrestling at Brookings has been canceled.
  • Mitchell Middle School basketball against Huron scheduled for Saturday has been postponed to Monday, Dec. 13. The MMS girls will host Huron at 4 p.m., with the MMS boys traveling to Huron for a 4 p.m. start.

At Dakota Wesleyan, where classes and offices were closed Friday due to the storm, the university canceled the opening day of the DWU Early Bird indoor track and field meet at the DWU/Avera Fieldhouse.
Competition is now scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, with all events scheduled to be contested on Saturday, including jumps, throws and running events.
