Instant replay could soon be implemented for the South Dakota state football championship games.

The South Dakota High School Activities Association's football advisory committee has recommended and voted unanimously on Tuesday to approve instant replay for the 2019 state football championships.

Up next, the motion will be sent to the athletics directors for a vote and would then need to be approved by the SDHSAA board of directors for implementation for the 2019 title contests.

The instant replay rules would follow the Minnesota State High School League Prep Bowl for guidelines.

Replay reviews will occur on scoring plays, turnovers and any play in the last two minutes of a half when a call or timing errors impacts the clock.

The protocol will not allow for coaches to request reviews. Challenges would be called from the replay official and sent down to the field. If the play can be reviewed quickly, there won't be a stoppage in play.
