Mitchell's Brenen Rose (25) moves the ball down the field against Harrisburg's Oliver Olegario on Saturday at Joe Quintal Field.

The Mitchell High School boys soccer team recorded 12 shots but couldn’t get one into the net on Saturday.

The Kernels dropped a 1-0 decision against Harrisburg in Eastern South Dakota Conference action at Joe Quintal Field.

Jamison Wear logged three shots on goal and seven other players had a shot on Saturday, but the Kernels didn’t crack the scoreboard.

“This was a winnable game for us, but we could not follow through on our opportunities,” Mitchell coach Ken Novak said. “I was pleased with our possession and moving the ball into the attacking third. Our 12 shots on goal came from eight different players in a variety of positions. We have built confidence to pull the trigger and our ability to possess the ball in the attacking third has contributed to a stronger offensive performance from multiple areas of the field. We just need to get the last pieces put into place by getting the ball into the goal.”

Mitchell’s Logan Oehlerking finished with 22 saves. The Kernels (1-7-0) play at Pierre on Sept. 15.
