The Mitchell High School girls soccer team was blanked by Harrisburg, 4-0, on Saturday at Joe Quintal Field. The Tigers out-shot the Kernels, 21-9, in the victory.
“The girls fought hard against a very talented opponent,” Mitchell coach Bob Lemon said. “Harrisburg has a lot of weapons and for the most part we were able to keep them in check. Outside of a five-minute span in the first half and a five-minute span late in the second, we played them evenly.”
The Tigers scored two goals in each half, with Hailee Christensen scored a pair of goals. Kiah Pieters and Sydney Hage each netted goals.
“The difference in the game today was that Harrisburg was able to finish and score in the offensive end,” Lemon said. “We had a hard time making the final pass in our offensive end to give ourselves an opportunity to score. Give Harrisburg credit, they hit some good shots. They took advantage of a couple of defensive mistakes, and made the most of those opportunities.”
Mitchell’s Caroline Titze finished with 12 saves in the loss.

“Caroline nearly made an incredible save on the penalty kick, but the ball was struck really well, and even though she was able to get a solid hand on the ball, she was only able to push it up into the top of the net,” Lemon added.
The Kernels (6-2-0) play at Pierre on Tuesday.
