Hanson Classic roundup: Wentland’s game winner lifts Corsica-Stickney over Clark/Willow Lake

Wentland hits shot with :4.5 seconds left

Brendan Wentland nailed a jumper with :4.5 seconds left to propel Corsica-Stickney to a boys basketball victory on Saturday at the Hanson Classic.

Corsica-Stickney (6-5): Wentland finished with 17 points and four rebounds. Trever Burke recorded 14 points and five rebounds. Jaylen Kemp tossed in eight points and grabbed seven rebounds. The Jaguars host Menno on Jan. 29 in Corsica.

Clark/Willow Lake (3-4): Trey Huber finished with 15 points and four steals. Kalab Marx recorded 12 points, while Brady Jordan and Noah Boykin had eight points apiece. The Cyclones play Great Plains Lutheran on Jan. 25.

Hanson 73, Lyman 41

Hanson used a 27-9 third-quarter burst to earn a boys basketball victory at the Hanson Classic on Saturday.

Hanson (7-4): Noah Price finished with 19 points and five rebounds. Riley Ferry added 18 points and 11 rebounds, while Hayden Bahmuller had 16 points and 12 boards. Ethan Cheeseman finished with nine points and six rebounds. Luke Haiar dished out eight assists. The Beavers play Sanborn Central/Woonsocket on Jan. 26 in Forestburg.

Lyman (6-3): Declan Cleveland recorded 11 points and Tyson Floyd finished with 10 points. Stockton McClanhan had eight points and four rebounds. The Raiders play Jones County on Jan. 26 in Murdo.

Chamberlain 67, Viborg-Hurley 64

Chamberlain erased a nine-point deficit with under four minutes left and edged Viborg-Hurley in boys basketball action at the Hanson Classic on Saturday.

Chamberlain (9-1): Drayton Priebe led the Cubs with 17 points, seven rebounds, six assists and three 3-pointers. Cameron Caldwell and Sellyck McManus netted 17 points apiece. Caldwell added six assists and seven boards. McManus collected nine rebounds. Hayden Evans logged 11 points. The Cubs play at Madison on Jan. 26.

Viborg-Hurley (8-3): Gradee Sherman finished with 25 points and 15 rebounds. Eli Boomgarden posted 15 points, nine rebounds and four assists. Hayden Gilbert added 10 points and four rebounds. The Cougars play Centerville on Jan. 28 in Hurley.

St. Thomas More pulled away from Tea Area for a boys basketball victory on Saturday at the Hanson Classic.

St. Thomas More (11-2): Caleb Hollenbeck finished with 22 points and seven rebounds. Cade Kandolin finished with 15 points and seven assists. Ryan Wojcik netted nine points and five rebounds. Charlie Larson put in seven points. The Cavaliers play at Spearfish on Jan. 26.

Tea Area (6-5): Jeff Worth posted 14 points and Garrett Kolbeck added 12 points. Reis Kirschenmen logged seven points. The Titans play at Sioux Falls Christian on Jan. 26.

Canistota 74, White River 65

Canistota notched its 10th boys basketball win of the season on Saturday as the Hawks took down White River at the Hanson Classic.

Canistota (10-1): Tyce Ortman exploded for 34 points for the Hawks. Logan Katzer chipped in 15 points and nine rebounds, while Chase Merrill added 13 points and seven assists in the win. The Hawks host Ethan on Jan. 25.

White River (7-5): Joe Sayler scored 25 points. Dylan Marshall chipped in 14 points, nine rebounds and six assists. Colbe Scott and Daice Marshall each added 10 points. White River hosts Platte-Geddes on Jan. 28.

Dakota Valley rode a hot start to a boys basketball win over Sioux Valley during the Hanson Classic on Saturday.

Dakota Valley (10-0): Isaac Bruns exploded for 35 points, as he nailed five 3s. Paul Bruns put up a monster 26-point, 17-rebound double-double in the win. Chayce Montage added 13 points and six assists. The Panthers host Sioux Falls Christian on Jan. 28.

Sioux Valley (12-1): Oliver Vincent scored 27 points, while Kelton Vincent added 19 points. Parker Puetz recorded 11 points. The Cossacks play at Flandreau on Feb. 4.
