SIOUX FALLS -- A pair of collegiate golf standouts were the champions at the South Dakota Golf Association’s Match Play Championships on Sunday at Willow Run Golf Course.

In the men’s competition, Bryce Hammer, a Sioux Falls O’Gorman graduate and incoming junior at Iowa State University, won the men’s division, while Teresa Toscano, a standout at South Dakota State University was the women’s champion.

Hammer, who was seeded third, defeated top-seeded and SDGA championship stalwart Ryan Jansa, of Sioux Falls, 2 and 1. Hammer was 1-up at the turn and held a 2-hole lead after 14 holes. Jansa won the 15th hole, before the pair halved No. 16. Hammer then drained a 10-foot birdie putt on the 17th hole to win the hole and the match.

Hammer defeated seventh-seeded University of South Dakota golfer Ben Daane, of Rapid City, 5 and 4, in the semifinals, while Jansa defeated 29th seeded Jonah Dohrer, an incoming junior at South Dakota State University from Aberdeen, by a 4 and 3 score.

In the women's division championship, Brookings’ Teresa Toscano claimed the state match play championship, winning 2 and 1 over Kali Trautman, of Sioux Falls. Toscano led for most of the match, carrying a 2-up lead through 13 holes. Trautman, a former Augustana University golfer and the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference’s golfer of the year in 2018, won the 15th hole to bring the match back to within a one-hole margin, but Toscano won the 16th hole to go back 2-up and a halved hole at No. 17 gave her the championship.
