ABERDEEN -- The Mitchell High School gymnastics team had a successful outing at the Hub City Invite on Saturday.

The Kernels came a point away from winning the invite, finishing in second with 144.850 points. Watertown scored 145.050 to narrowly edge the Kernels. Sioux Falls O’Gorman (137.000), Sioux Falls Lincoln (134.125) and Aberdeen (128.150) rounded out the top five.

Mitchell was well-represented on every event. Emily Moody (9.400) placed second on vault, with Watertown’s Myah Morris winning it. Morris also claimed the all-around title, while Moody placed third. Watertown’s Brooke Bollinger finished in second.

Moody took second in beam, too. Chelsey Mohr and Kyra Gropper, who finished sixth in the all-around, placed sixth and seventh, respectively, on beam. Masy Mock took 10th.

Gropper’s sixth-place finish in the all-around was powered by her winning the uneven parallel bars with 9.350 points. Alyssa Hughes finished in third right behind Gropper, as Joslin Sommerville (sixth), Mohr (seventh) and Moody (10th) also made appearances in the top 10.

Gropper also placed eighth on vault, with teammates Mohr and Tessa Allen tying for ninth place.

The Kernels compete in the Mitchell Invitational on Friday at Mitchell High School.
