YANKTON—The Mitchell High School gymnastics teams won four individual events and captured the Yankton Triangular on Tuesday.

The Kernels finished with a team score of 142.3, while Sioux Falls Lincoln recorded 129.25 points and Yankton scored 127.3.

After last Saturday's meet was canceled due to the weather, the Kernels were again able to hone their skills during a smaller triangular.

"I think it's good to use these opportunities at the smaller meets to try some new skills and try to build their confidence so that whether we know we can compete on invitational Saturdays or not," Mitchell coach Audra Rew said.

Mitchell's Kaylee Bauder was the all-around champ with 35.7 points, just edging out teammate Gracie Czmowski (35.25). Mitchell's Alyssa Hughes (34.7) and Masy Mock (34.25) finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

Hughes won the vault with 9.1 points. Bauder (9.05) and Caitlin Ostbye (8.75) took second and third, respectively.

In the bars, Czmowski and Bauder tied for first with 9.15 points. Kyra Gropper (9.05) took third. Mock (8.6) took second in the beam, while Czmowski (8.55) placed third.

In the floor, Czmowski (9.15) placed second and Bauder (9.0) finished third.

The Kernels are at the Aberdeen Central Invitational on Saturday as they are itching to compete at a bigger meet.

"We are ready for Aberdeen," Rew said. "We need to get an invite under our belts and we need to see the rest of the state. We've had two weeknight meets and they've both been against Yankton. So tonight we also saw Lincoln, but we are ready to see some other teams and kind of get our adrenaline going at a big invite."
