Groton eliminates Winner/Colome in Class B Legion state tourney

Chandler Larson kept Winner/Colome’s bats in check as Groton eliminated the Royals, 4-2, in the Class B Legion state tournament on Saturday.

GROTON -- Chandler Larson kept Winner/Colome’s bats in check as Groton eliminated the Royals, 4-2, in the Class B Legion state tournament on Saturday.

Larson struck out eight batters, allowed five hits, one earned run and walked one batter in the complete-game performance.

In the fifth inning, Alex Morris’ RBI single and Larson’s RBI groundout gave Groton a two-run cushion it didn’t relinquish.

For Winner/Colome, Aiden Barfuss finished with two hits. Jesse Colson, Kameron Meiners and Charley Pravecek each had a hit. Pravecek had an RBI.

Meiners took the loss. He allowed six hits, three earned runs and struck out one batter in his four-inning start.

Winner/Colome finishes the season 14-9. Groton plays either Tabor or Redfield at noon Sunday.
