VERMILLION -- Parkston dropped a couple spots in the team standings on Tuesday, but it still notched a top-five finish at the Class A state golf meet.

The Trojans shot a 362 at the Bluffs Golf Course, for a two-day score of 706 and a fourth-place finish. Chamberlain (739) took ninth.

Sioux Falls Christian (679) held on to win the state title, while Tea Area (692) and Madison (701) both made up enough ground to leap Parkston. Vermillion (707) rounded out the top five.

Lance Christensen, of Little Wound, shot an 80 on Tuesday to conclude his two-day 157 and claim the state championship. He took down Madison’s Keaton Nighbert (162) by five strokes.

Parkston was led by Quinn Bormann, who used three birdies to shoot a 90 on Tuesday. He ended in a tie for 10th with a 168. Payton Koehn (171) followed closely behind in 16th, in part due to shooting 11 pars.

Braden Bruening (176) and Matt Ehler (194) took 26th and 59th, respectively, to round of the Trojans’ team score.

Meanwhile, Chamberlain was paced by Drayton Priebe’s 171. He used six pars on the second day to finish in 16th for the Cubs. Cameron Caldwell (172) took 20th, as well. Dakota Munger (192) placed 56th and Sandler Wiekamp (204) took 75th.
