YANKTON -- The Dakota Wesleyan University men’s golf team began its season with two teams entered in the Mount Marty Fall Invitational on Monday and finished the first round with nine golfers in the top-50.
The Tigers’ ‘A’ team is in fourth place with a 19-over-par 307 -- 13 strokes off the lead -- and the ‘B’ team is in sixth after posting a 30-over-par 330. University of Jamestown sits on top of the leaderboard with a 6-over-par 294 at Fox Run Golf Course.
Justice Morrison is tied for fifth after carding a 1-over-par 73, while Bennett Lundy and Devan Weelborg are one stroke behind in eighth.
Mitchell native Cade Carpenter, Nolan Wiegel, Tony Hayes and Payton Phares are tied for 23rd with scores of 8-over-par 80. Parkston’s Nate Hohn is one stroke back in a tie for 34th and Jamie McGowan posted an 83 for a 46th-place finish after one round.
Jamestown’s Treyton Forsman holds a three-stroke lead at the top of the standings, shooting 4-under-par 68.
Play shifts to Hillcrest Golf and Country Club on Tuesday for the second and final round.
