Howard girls put two golfers in top six at Region 2B meet
BROOKINGS—Five Howard golfers qualified for the Class B state tournament at the Region 2B tournament on Thursday.
Piper Thompson shot a 95 to place fifth, while Kenedy Koepsell was two strokes behind in sixth place for a Howard girls squad that placed fourth in the team standings with a 303.
Deubrook's Courtni Frank edged Flandreau's Keva Burshiem in a playoff after both shot an 87 through 18 holes. Deubrook also beat Flandreau in the team standings, 279-286.
Meanwhile, Lane Hodges carded a 91 to take 10th for the Tiger boys, while Ethan Cross was 15th with a 95 as they placed sixth as a team with a 283. Noah Andersen shot a 97 and will be the third golfer for Howard at state.
Jacob Messmer led Wessington Springs with a 96 and a 16th-place finish, while the Spartans placed seventh as a team. James Valley Christian's Austin Boomsma was the medalist with a 74, while also leading his team to a victory after posting a 249 team score.
