IRENE-The Freeman boys golf team clinched the Cornbelt Conference Tournament after topping Howard by one stroke on Friday at Glenridge Golf Course.
The Flyers boasted the top two individuals on the leaderboard, also separated by one stroke. Bailey Sage was the medalist after shooting an 88, while teammate Tryg Aanenson shot an 89, as Freeman finished with a 289 as a team.
Howard's Noah Andersen and Ethan Cross were third and fourth, respectively, after each shot a 94. Blake Mommaats placed seventh with a 102 for the Tigers. Canistota's Logan Heinzmann rounded out the top five with a 100.
The Howard girls shot a 315 to edge Bridgewater-Emery by strokes to win the Cornbelt team title, led by Piper Thompson's 94.
Thompson bested second-place Darby Hurd, of Bridgewater-Emery, by eight strokes. Meanwhile, Howard's Trinity Palmquist was third with a 107 and Mia Glanzer was eigth with a 114.
Bridgewater-Emery's Cortney Kayser (108) was fourth and Shaylee Longe (110) was sixth. Irene-Wakonda's Baylee Boese was fifth with a 110.
