Area golf roundup: Parkston's Weidenbach edged in playoff for Dakota Valley title
SIOUX FALLS—Eighteen holes weren't enough to determine a champion at the Dakota Valley Girls Golf Invitational on Tuesday at Two Rivers Golf Course.
Parkston's Ellie Weidenbach and West Central's Lauryn Driscoll went into a sudden death playoff after each recorded an 80. Weidenbach bogeyed the hole, while Driscoll finished with a par to pick up the win.
West Central also shot a 364 overall to edge Parkston by five strokes in the team standings. Tylee Neugebauer finished 12th with a 92, while Dani Norden shot a 93 to finish 14th for Parkston.
Katie Reif's 91 placed her 11th for McCook Central/Montrose.
SCW's Schmit takes 14th at De Smet Invite
DE SMET—Sanborn Central/Woonsocket's Katie Schmit shot a 55 to finish 14th on the girls leaderboard at the nine-hole De Smet Invitational on Tuesday. Teammate Megan Linke shot 67 and finished 25th.
Wessington Springs' Cheyenne Burg placed 19th with a 58, while Maddie Neely was 22nd with a 62. Miller's Erin Moncur won with a 44, five strokes ahead of second-place Mattie Nepodal, of Deubrook Area.
On the boys side, SCW's Collin Schmiedt placed 21st with a 49, while teammate Cayden Slykhuis was 26th with a 51. Wessington Springs' Monte Azure shot also shot a 49 and finished 22nd, while Jacob Messmer was 27th with a 52.
