PIERRE -- The championship picture for the South Dakota Golf Association state junior golf championship was all Mitchell in the girls 12 and 13-year-old division on Monday.
Mitchell classmates Allison Meyerink and Quinn Dannenbring dueled for the top spot on the leaderboard Monday at Hillsview Golf Club. Through nine holes, Meyerink led by one stroke, but she was able to gain an advantage by two strokes in the final three holes to win by three strokes with a 16-over-par 88.
Meyerink has won three events on the SDGA Southeast Junior Tour, while taking second in the remaining two she has participated in.
Mitchell’s Asher Dannenbring placed seventh in the 11-and-under boys division with a 7-over-par 43, finishing six strokes behind champion Vincent Vanliere, of Rapid City, who beat Sioux Falls’ Riley Christensen in a playoff.
Through the first round of the girls 16-18 division, Mitchell’s Masy Mock is tied for sixth with Aberdeen’s Brooklyn Hofer, six strokes behind Sioux Falls’ Shannon McCormick for the lead. Mock shot a 12-over-par 84.
Mitchell’s Max Tupper is in a four-way tie for 14th in the boys 16-18 division with a 78, while Max Dailey is tied for 22nd with an 80 and Parkston’s Quinn Bormann is tied for 24th with an 81. Sioux Falls’ Jack Lundin leads the field with a 6-under-par 66.
Gregory’s Eli Fogel is tied for 13th in the boys 14 and 15-year-old division after one round with an 87. Parkston’s Payton Koehn is three strokes behind in 16th and Mitchell’s Ashton Reimnitz is 19th with a 99.
The 16-18 divisions and 14-15 divisions play in the final round today at Hillsview Golf Club.
