SYLVANIA, Ohio — South Korea's Sei Young Kim shot a 5-under 66 on Saturday, July 13, to remain in the lead after three rounds of the Marathon Classic in Sylvania.
Kim, who is at 16-under 197, is one shot ahead of charging Lexi Thompson, who fired a 65 in her third trip around Highland Meadows Golf Club in the Toledo-area event. Thompson ended her round with an eagle.
South Korea's Jeongeun Lee is alone in third, four shots off the pace, after shooting 69 during the windy conditions.
Spain's Carlota Ciganda (68), Jennifer Kupcho (69) and Stacy Lewis (69) are another shot back in a tie for fourth.
Thailand's Pavarisa Yoktuan (66) and Canada's Brooke Henderson (67) are tied for tied for seventh at 204, seven shots behind Kim.
Kim produced seven birdies and two bogeys during her round. She posted four birdies in a six-hole span from Nos. 12-17 to open a cushion that proved to be needed due to Thompson's finish.
Kim is looking for her second win of the season and ninth LPGA victory of her career.
Thompson began her round with a bogey and then birdied five of the next eight holes. Her back nine consisted of eight straight pars before an energizing finish when she recorded the eagle on the par-5, 18th hole.
