The Mitchell Christian girls basketball team was in control from start to finish and rolled to a victory over Iroquois Friday, winning 31-15 at Baas Auditorium.

Emily Reynen led the Golden Eagles with 13 points and five rebounds. Abbie Reynen had nine points, five assists and three steals to help in the winning effort.

"We played well enough to win, even if we didn't shoot very well," said Mitchell Christian coach Jackie Van Laecken. "It was hard to get much offense going but we were able to get enough going to win the game."

After a 20-5 halftime lead, the offense bogged down for the Golden Eagles, mustering just 11 points the rest of the way. But a good defensive effort and 18 forced turnovers kept the Chiefs away from threatening for the lead throughout the game.

Allison Bich had 11 points for Iroquois. The Chiefs have just seven players on varsity and finished the game with four players on the court when three players were on the bench with injuries.

The Golden Eagles (2-0) are at Wessington Springs today. Iroquois (0-1) is off until Tuesday when they play Hendricks (Minn.).

"We're off to a good start and our veteran players have really stepped up for us, so far this season," Van Laecken said. "There's plenty to work on but we've had two nice wins so far."
